"Mhmhm." Simon nodded in a conspiratorial manner, taking a bite of the peach he held in his hands, audibly suckling the fruit as if to avoid the juices from dripping on his robes. "Well, as long as she doesn't get ahead of herself. There's always someone more calculative and more cunning out there." History lessons had taught him as much. "I trust you are keeping an eye on her, still."

"House Cordwayner." Simon mouthed slowly as he tried to memorize the name. "Well, true to his roots."

“That I am, m’boy, that I am. Not much goes on in this Keep that I don’t hear about.”

He washed the lemon cakes down with a hearty swig of red wine. Indicating the silver links of Simon’s chain, “spent some time with Archmaester Ebrose, then? Good man, that one, sensible.”

Liliane Marten wrote:"Yes, in the mountains a little West of Gulltown actually," she said relating it to the main city back home, "My aunt insisted we take a boat across the Bay of Crabs to avoid the Hill Tribes. So it was not dangerous." Though it sounded like she wasn't thrilled by that, "On the other hand Maidenpool was rather nice."

"The long ride thereafter helped settle the horses after being on the boat. They didn't like that." Leovall points out. "The scenery is pretty here in the Reach. Lots of grasslands and only the slightest rolling hills. It feels very... very peaceful." In his mind the contrast of lush meadows with rocky mountaintops strongly paralleled the peacefulness here with the danger back home. No wonder father says they're all soft.

"Oh I am sure." Simon found himself wishing he was as capable. "I bet there's more going on in a place like this, too." Tremaine lands were at the borderlands and there excitement meant bad news. "More guests, more traffic. More news." he reached for a goblet, pouring himself a cupful before taking a careful sip. Wines were excellent in Reach but he wanted to keep his wits.

"Oh yes." Simon smiled. "Good man. Strict, but good. Then again, it's not like lax is any good when you are trying to help people get better."

"The dogs didn't like the boat much, either." Terrance added. "But, it was a pleasant journey overall."

"Thank you, father," she stated with a wry, teasing grin.

As usual Marten noticed the looks and gestures between the two girls. And, as usual, he was entirely incapable of deciphering them. He glanced back and forth between them, amused.

"I was also asking Mari if she was enjoying herself, and was going to ask you the same question. I hope I can take your chattiness as a yes?"

"My chattiness? Goodness, have I been speaking so much to be described as such?" She lowered her head in reflection. "What an embarrassment then."

"Oh, not at all, sister!" Mari exclaimed rather hastily. If Jyn was chatty, she was probably having a good time socialising with all sorts of new people, Mari reasoned. Which meant that her sister was having a good time.

"Hardly an embarrassement that you're having a good time. I'm glad!" she was quick to be supportive of Jynessa.

"As am I." Marten assured her, giving the second twin a kindly smile. "I want you have a good time. Enjoy yourselves. Make friends."

He nodded across the way. "I met a very nice young woman earlier today. She seemed like she could use a friend." He chuckled. "And don't think I didn't notice some young men looking in this direction, either." His tone was good-natured.

"A proper lady knows when to keep her mouth closed. She knows when to speak and when to listen." She took a deep breath. "How am I supposed to be a suitable bride if I will not listen to my potential betrothed?"

"Jyyyyn," Mari gave her younger sister a pointed look as she pushed a goblet of wine over to her.

"You're fretting. Relax. It's our first time, hm? So it's alright. A man should have to be prepared for an earful from his wife, I say."
