Marten chuckled. "That's certainly true. Don't let it bother you, Jyn. Your-"

He cleared his throat, frowning down a moment at his plate, before looking up again with a smile. "When we were younger, your mother certainly never had a problem letting me know her mind."

Maester Simon wrote:"Oh I am sure." Simon found himself wishing he was as capable. "I bet there's more going on in a place like this, too." Tremaine lands were at the borderlands and there excitement meant bad news. "More guests, more traffic. More news." he reached for a goblet, pouring himself a cupful before taking a careful sip. Wines were excellent in Reach but he wanted to keep his wits.

"Oh yes." Simon smiled. "Good man. Strict, but good. Then again, it's not like lax is any good when you are trying to help people get better."

Hubert reached for a piece of fruit, slurping greedily, "I'm something of a talent in that area, you know. Archmaester Ebrose was quite impressed when I tested with him." He jangled his chain to show off the silver links, one more than Simon had. Healing wasn't his passion, but it was his art.

"Oh is that so?" Simon asked, his eyebrows rising ever so slightly. Don't recall him mentioning you, but that could be because it was years ago you got your links. he bit his lip and kept his thoughts to himself. "I admit that the mysteries of human body are close to my heart as well." a small chuckle escaped his lips - the pun had been rather awful. "I've always liked helping people too. Not that I miss cleaning all the bed pans." everyone had to start somewhere and that had been where he'd started. Apparently there had been a lot to be learned from feces. "I guess it was pretty much the same your time?"

Clapping the younger man on the shoulder again, "oh, you make me sound so old, boy. I suppose the years have been slipping away while I've been seeing to the affairs of House Meadows. Seems you have an interest in heraldry?"

Jyn held the goblet close to herself. "Mother continued to do so later on too," she murmured. She took a sip from her glass and stared into its contents, a slight frown on her lips.

Aaand Plan: Happy Family looked like it was going to fail on the first day.

Quick, Mari, think of something!

Mari cleared her throat slightly, unwilling to let the recent tragedies dim the evening. "By the way, I met some of the guests who have come from outside the Reach for the tourney. Some of them showed an interest in maybe participating in a light hunt, or at least sightseeing of the meadows and area nearby. That would be nice, wouldn't it?" She looked to both of her family members, somewhat insistently.

Marten was unable to hide the flash of pain on his grizzled features at Jyn's words. Pain and guilt. He often wondered if there was something he'd missed. He suspected he'd always wonder...

He cleared his throat, forcing a smile onto his face at Mari's words. "Oh, did you?" He said cheerfully. "Some guests certainly have come quite a ways, haven't they? And yes, that's quite nice." He gave her a look with raised eyebrows. "Sounds like you're making friends already then, eh?" He teased gently.

With the meal part done, Lord Bromley had moved to Lord Androw's side to converse. After a time, he stepped down from the head table to mingle amongst the guests seated closest to him. Though every Holding put on its own Festival of Roses, the Marchers had an unspoken, unacknowledged agreement that, in the eastern Reach, only one of the Lords would throw a grand and lavish Event where the heads of Houses could gather.

This year was House Meadows, and many of the attending Lords were equal to Lord Bromely in status, and their rapport was more on the level of brothers-in-arms. Fitting, as most had squired or served together when they were just heirs instead of lords.

Bromely did not linger too long with any one of the present Lords. His eyes settled on the twins and a small smile of recognition appeared. He was moving towards where they were seated.

Seeing Lord Meadows approach, Marten stopped both moping at teasing.

He rose to his feet, moving with only a bit of stiffness. "My lord." He said, bowing, again a bit stiffly. "You honor us." Smiling, he gestured first with one hand, then the other. "You remember my daughters, of course. Mariessa and Jynessa."

Bromely offered a handshake, "so good you could make it this year, Marten." Turning towards the girls, "no, these lovely women couldn't be Nyssa and Mari, look at you two, all grown up. The last time I saw, you were only yay high," he indicated a little above waist height. The time, Marten," the Lord clucked his tongue, "where does it all go?"
