[D6 EM] Drawing Attention (Olymer's Suite)

Olymer raised an eyebrow smoothly. "It seems you both know more than you should. Lord Meadows told me everything, I wanted to hear your take. Why do you think she was cast from a window? She was found on the steps, was she not? She would have had to have been hurled with great force to land so far from the Keep."

"Wanted to hear our take..." Kylie trailed off. Her mood shifted to being on guard. "Olymer, we're family and we've always been honest. Why not just ask? And do you now intend to give up the names of those who know? I told you as you're my Tyrell blood and our bond. It should be up to other Houses if they want to reveal themselves lest we be seen as untrustworthy in the Reach."

She had originally been prepared to share the common theories, but now she was more than hesitant.

"Yes, it did occur to me that she would have had to make a flying leap to get where she was." Claryssa agreed, but offered nothing more.

Olymer snorted, "calm yourself. You said 'loss', do not speak to me of dancing around with one's words when you hedge your own." He shook his head and took a sip of his tea. "Lord Bromley mentioned that you seemed quite incensed when you went to visit him. He felt badly for you, cousin, but it did not make a favourable impression upon him."

"You are not at the Arbor," he sighed, "you brought into question his competence, and that of his household guard. Politically, it was unwise. Have you written to you parents? Bromley certainly has, and if your version of events aren't close on the wings of his, you may lose you chance to explain altogether. As to the Martens, I am not a spy nor an interrogator, and I am hurt by such accusations."

"You have become so distrusting, I am sorry to see how you have changed."

Kylie sighed and lowered her head. "Forgive me, Olymer. You're right, of course." Her tension visibly relaxed. "I have been more than rattled than I ought to be, even around people I love and trust. Seeing Leana's body was a trauma I'm certainly not used to. And then only hours later being attacked... I felt it was my duty to go to Lord Bromley. If a guest staying beneath our roof felt unsafe, father would be offended to find out from someone else later and would much rather they bring him their concerns without involving middle parties. What if he were to hear about our knowledge and feelings from another? No, I did not wish to insult him like that."

"However that meeting didn't go as I would have liked. He was not what I expected of a Lord." she admitted to her cousin. "Perhaps I should write to my parents, but I didn't, and still don't, want my words to be found by another and have House Meadows disdained because I am frightened. It's the entire reason I've kept my dark words off dark wings."

She smiled in spite of herself. "I have been taught the proper etiquette for many situations, Olymer. I never thought to learn what one should do if they think any of the guards meant to protect them could be a murderer."

Olymer's brow furrowed, "do you think it might have been one of the guards?" He looked thoughtful, "Bromley hasn't been idle in the matter, and perhaps that is why he feels so put upon by your words. He has doubled the watches, and recalled a number of his men from their patrols to bolster the guard. He feels relatively confident that Leana's death was as rare as it was unfortunate."

"When you say he's not what you expected, how do you mean?"

Kylie looked to Claryssa, who nodded and answered. "Like you said, the girl had to have been pushed hard to make it to the steps. And the scream was so loud, it woke both Kylie and I. It had to have alerted every guard within the Keep. And yet the man got away. Who would blend in when the guards all rushed to find the source of the scream?"

Kylie nodded in agreement before sighing. "Perhaps by telling Lord Bromley we knew the truth we put him in an untenable mindset. It was a combination of things said and unsaid that left me uncomfortable, with a sour taste in my mouth. Exposed, really." She took a sip of tea.

"Do you think I should write, Olymer? I would sincerely abhor the notion that my words about two isolated events be held against House Meadows."

Olymer shrugged, sipping his tea, “it can’t hurt. Your parents might wonder why they’ve heard from him and not you, but in likelihood they’ll mark it down to you being a girl at a tourney.”

“Speaking of which,” Olymer folded his hands in front of him, expression troubled.

Claryssa sipped her tea as Kylie nodded, agreeing to the idea of sending a raven.

At his beginning, Kylie tilted her head. "Yes, cousin?"

“My valet brought me some troubling gossip this morning. He heard it from the scullery maids, and thought I should know. I suppose, with your parents absent, it falls to me to say something.”

Kylie blinked. 'Gossip?' She hadn't had her ear to the ground, but it was still early. Her heart sank into her stomach.

"Oh, by the Seven, please tell me no one has found out about Claryssa." She put a hand atop the Braavosi's.
