Bromley leaned back in his chair, “when I was much younger, and I still jousted in the lists, I was at the Festival of Roses all the way out at the Arbor. I thought Narelle was the most beautiful woman I’d ever laid eyes on. She was dancing the maypole the same afternoon I arrived.”

“I did everything I could think of to catch her eye, but it wasn’t until the joust that I finally succeeded. I was champion that year, and when it came time to crown the Queen of Love and Beauty, there was only one woman I could see.” He sipped his wine and cleared his throat, “that was before the fuss with Rhaegar and Lyanna, of course.”

“Well, I danced with Narelle after the feast that night. We were married within the year, and my father hosted a grand Festival of Roses here in Grassy Vale in celebration.” With solemnity, “don’t let love pass you by.”

"Aww," Mari closed her eyes a little as she imagined being crowned the Queen of Love and Beauty. "That sounds so romantic..."

"I hope I can be as lucky as you two." She sighed wistfully, thinking of Terrance... and Harben.

"Don't let love pass us by," she echoed. Jyn raised her glass to those words and took a sip of her wine.

With a contented sort of sigh, "now, I promised you girls gifts, didn't I?"

"That is correct," Jynessa confirmed with a big, warm smile.

[Mariessa Tremaine]

Mari perked up as well. What sort of young lady didn't like gifts?

Chuckling, Bromley opened a drawer and withdrew a pair of small wooden boxes. They were finely crafted, richly oiled, and inlaid with a copper silhouette of the Red Keep. Opening one just a fraction, "Nessa, this one is for you," and he pushed the box towards her to open, holding Mariessa's gift back to give the younger twin a chance to look at the contents.

Oh my, I have been wanting a new, decorative box to contain my possessions," she said, followed by a giggle. She waited for Mari to be ready to open her box before opening her own.

Bromley laughed warmly, and pushed Mariessa’s gift towards her as well.

Seriousness took over, “Mari, I was going to give this to your brother’s fiancée once he had found a suitable bride, to wear on her wedding day. I didn’t know if I should have sent it back to King’s Landing and given you something to match Nessa’s gift.” He frowned, “if you feel you cannot accept it, I will understand, and I will commission something new made.”
