Weary and worn down by the girl's insistent charm, "Lady Kylie, you know I have always thought well of you and your family. I understand you're frightened, but if you truly do not feel safe, I can only conclude that the fault lies with your protector, not my guards."

"My Lord, I can't help but take some offense. I had a knife to my throat today in the market place, and Claryssa fought him off single-handedly. If not for her, I would be surely dead." Kylie rubbed her neck where the steel had met it earlier.

“What would you have me do? My guards cannot be everywhere and, forgive me for being blunt, but you are unharmed. It would surely not be in his interest to kill you, or anyone, if all he was after was money or ransom.” Bromley rubbed his temples, frustration growing anew.

"I can see we are vexing you, my Lord. That is most certainly not our intent. Our offer to have Claryssa questioned by a guard you trust well enough to keep my family's confidence stands. We do appreciate your time. I shall attempt to calm my nerves. If it would not be out of line, could we have a guard escort us back to our pavilion? I asked Claryssa here tonight because I was shaken, but as you can see she is not wearing any armor or her sword."

“Very good,” he nodded to his serving girl, who understood to instruct one of the guards to escort the ladies on their departure. Getting to his feet, “if there is anything else?” his tone clearly broadcast that he hoped there wasn’t.

"No, my Lord. You've been most kind. Thank you again for speaking to us. We'll let you get back to other matters." Kylie spoke both respectfully and in a friendly tone. The girls curtsied before exiting the room.

Bromley sank back down in his chair, “fetch Maester Hubert,” he instructed. The young woman’s audacity was, at the same time, outrageous and commendable. “Gods be good,” he muttered to himself, perhaps I should have Kenway talk to this foreign girl after all, anyone that desperate to prove they have nothing to hide, usually does.
