[Marten Tremaine]

Marten gave a nod. "I will, yes." He chuckled, shaking his head. "It's been a while since I've been in one." He sighed in pleasant reminiscence.

"My daughter said this is your first, as a competitor." Marten said, his tone inviting.

[Leovall Marten]

Even so Leovall stiffened a little. Perhaps abashed or shy about this detail? "Y-yes. I mean, I've witnessed them before, but this will be my first time directly competing. Um. Of course I have practised a great deal." Sensing Marten's more inviting temperament in that moment he glances around and then back to the Lord knight. Maybe he had some wisdom to offer? "Is there anything you suggest bearing in mind Lord Tremaine?"

[Marten Tremaine]

"Hmmm." Marten smiled, just a little. "I remember the first time I jousted. For real, not just for practice. I wasn't so nervous until I actually got up into the lists. Damn near forgot everything, or so I felt." He smiled, looking back at his horse. "I rode Argent's father, then. Hmmm."

Turning back to Leovall, he shrugged. "Once your horse actually starts moving, it all comes back to you. If you've trained well, it'll happen without you needing to think about it. And then it'll get easier with each pass. I wouldn't worry about it." Marten said, giving him a kindly nod. "You'll do fine."

[Leovall Marten]

"Ahem." He clears his throat and nods, standing up straight. "My thanks for your kind words. I will do my best." Leovall considers the other man and smiles again. "Perhaps we will even meet in the lists."

[Marten Tremaine]

Marten favored him with another kindly nod. "That should be enough. It's all we can do, eh?"

He chuckled a moment at the mention of them facing each other. "That could be." He shook his head ruefully. "I used to be quite the jouster back in my day, you know. Placed well in a number of tourneys. Of course, my day was almost twenty years ago." He shrugged. "So, make of that what you will."

[Leovall Marten]

"Ha ha! Well, I don't know any knights of the Reach personally so at least for now that makes you the one to beat Ser." Clapping his thigh with his free hand he grins slightly. "Hopefully I'll have faced a few others before then." Glancing to Marten's horse he realises he might be holding up the older man unduly. "Well, this horse is Cole and both he and I do not wish to keep you as you're preparing for your own ride with dashing Argent."

[Marten Tremaine]

Marten chuckled at that. "Best of luck to the both of us then, I suppose."

He chuckled again at the mention of Ardent. "Dashing? Well, I suppose he is. He's a lot younger than his rider, after all. He's only five years old."

He glanced back at the younger knight. "If you give me a few minutes to finish up, I could join you if you like." Marten's tone was fairly indifferent.

[Leovall Marten]

"I would, certainly." Smiling at the prospect of company Leovall moves Cole to the side of the stables. "I'll be here Lord Tremaine." Picking up a nearby brush he starts working on Cole's mane.

[Marten Tremaine]

It wasn't too long before Marten lead Ardent out the stable door, all saddled up and ready to go. The horses were fairly even in size; Ardent responded with some curiosity to the other horse, but was too well-behaved for any horsey antics.

"Right, then." Marten nodded. "Shall we?" He led the way, physically for Ardent, out of the stables. His walk was a bit stiff, but his hand on the lead was clearly competent.

[Leovall Marten]

Setting the brush down he gives Cole's nose a quick rub. "Ready boy?" With a quick whistle the horse begins to follow him as he walks about along with Marten. "Let's." Most of his attention was on the other horse. Ardent was an impressive specimen.

Taking the reins he stops when they're outside, moving to Cole's left side and taking hold of the saddle he places a foot in the stirrup. Then he both jumps and pulls himself up. Swinging his leg over expertly he then glances over to Marten as he works his other foot into the stirrup on Cole's right side.
