The girl ushered the ladies towards the shelves of fabric bolts. They'd been arranged by colour: yellows melting into greens on one side and oranges on the other, greens fanning out into aquas and blues, oranges turning red and pink. It seemed the only colour not properly represented was purple. The bolts varied in weights, as well; from stiff satin, suitable for structured bodices and giving skirts fullness, to delicate and sheer chiffons that draped and floated dreamily.
"You choose?" she enunciated carefully. She selected a bolt from the shelves, auburn silk that draped softly and was just a little sheer, and offered it for them to examine.
