Festival of Roses

It was finally here.

Marten sat easily atop Ardent. He breathed in and out, slowly and steadily, although it wasn't visible beneath his thick armor. Out on the field, again. Wonderful. Truly, it had been too long.

He took a moment to salute the crowd, especially his lord and his daughters... wait, make that daughter. Marten sighed, shaking his head before turning to his opponent, saluting one more time before lowering his visor.

He was ready.

Terrance sat upon Llyan. Both rider and mount took a moment to adjust to the borrowed armor. It had been a while since the hunter had worn anything more than leathers.

Soon, however, he was ready. He saluted the hosts and the crowd and his opponent. There was a look of respect towards Marten as he lowered his visor.

He was ready.

It began!

Marten and Ardent charged towards their opponents, hooves churning the ground. He managed to guide his lance into Terrance's shield, striking with moderate force.

Terrance mannaged, barely, to keep his seat, while his lance clearly missed Lord Tremaine.

Maintaining a defensive posture, Stone prepared for the next pass.

Marten brought Argent around for the second pass.

The key to jousting, Marten knew, was to apply just the right amount of force at the right moment. He rode high in the saddle on the next pass, allowing him to lean solidly into the contact as the two came together.

Terrance tried to take the blow and stay on Llyan, but Marten's strike was just too powerful. He was launched into the air and fell hard to the ground. He had been defeated.

Accept Defeat

If the impact wasn't enough of a clue, the clatter as Marten rode past was. He urged Ardent back in a wide circle, lifting his visor as he went.

"Terrance, man. Are you alright?" He asked politely as he drew near.

The man stared at the sky for a few moments, before rolling onto his side.

"Aye, I'm fine." he answered. "Maybe a little bruised. Well struck."

Slowly, he managed to rise.

"Thank you." Marten said with a nod. "You showed spirit, there. That's the important thing."

He gave Terrance another nod before riding back to his side.

Once back on his feet, Terrance took Llyan's reins and walked off the field. Hopefully, the next round would be less awkward.
