He smiled. "My father made sure my life was never too hard and my uncle allowed me to find my place once I was brought into the household. I am grateful for what I've been given, but what I earn is what means the most to me. My position. My friendships. Your respect."

Mari blushed a little, and her gloved hands tightened their hold on the reins of the horse.

"Well... I can say you have earned my respect for now," she smiled to him, "maybe my friendship too? It is still early to tell, but I would not object to getting to know you better, and see if friendship is something that can be earned on both sides."

She suspected Jyn would disapprove, as Terrance was a bastard, but Mari thought he seemed nice... and he wasn't bad to look at either.

Mari smiled shyly. At times like this, she half-expected Kevith to come charging out on Reason to punch down Terrance, but after a brief glance she could see that the large destrier and its rider was nowhere in sight. Hopefully he was helping her father, or looking elsewhere for her.

"Hm, well... I think I will start with a simple question then: what do you prefer me to call you? Just Terrance?" It was always a bit odd with those who had bastard-names, especially since Terrance seemed to be held in high regard by his family, despite his birth.

"Very well, Terrance," she nodded in return. "Then you can call me Mari. My friends and family call me Mari... except the few times father does say Mariessa, but then I usually tend to get away as quickly as I can."

"Thank you, Mari." he nodded. "My father has called me Terry a few times. It's never felt right to me, though. My mother preferred Terrance, I think that's why."

The horse tossed its mane out of boredom from listening to the two humans.

"So... ah, may I ask a question?"
