Tremaine Trio Talks (D3, Late Morning)

[Marten Tremaine]

Marten chuckled at that. "Well, it's better than a lot of ways that can be done. At least that way you get to meet people, get to know about them a little, find out if a match would be good or truly impossible."

He shrugged. "Imagine if you were betrothed without ever meeting your intended." Which hadn't been too far off from his own situation.

[Mariessa Tremaine]

"... That's what it was like for you and mother?" Mari asked with some caution. It was always a touchy subject to ask about mother.

[Marten Tremaine]

Marten hesitated a moment, then shook his head. "Not quite. I'd met her once or twice. She was betrothed to my older brother, before he died." Goodness, that had been a long time ago.

He shrugged, his eyes downcast. "Of course, I think they'd scarcely met either. So, it wasn't... too jarring for her. I believe."

[Jynessa Tremaine]

"She used to tell me stories about it being odd," Jynessa admitted. She ran a finger through her hair. "She did not make too much of a fuss about it. At least until..."

[Marten Tremaine]

"Oh." Marten blinked, his gaze going further downcast. He was silent a few moments.

He shrugged. "I, uh, well, it seemed to me that we managed to make things work, anyway. We were reconciled to it. At least for a while, I suppose."

[Mariessa Tremaine]

Awkward...

Mari finished nibbling on some part of the breakfast. "Well, I suppose marriage is a lot about making it work... a knight being charming at a tourney is different from being married to him, I imagine. But I doubt most of them can stand up to father's interrogation," she added with a playful wink to lighten the conversation again. "Or Kevith's."

[Jynessa Tremaine]

Jyn let out a solemn sigh and went back to picking at her food like a caged bird. She looked to her sister and then nodded. "Marriage requires the most collaboration, so I am told."

[Mariessa Tremaine]

Sensing her twin's mood, Mari put a hand on Jyn's shoulder. "Hey... Jyn, it's going to be alright."

[Marten Tremaine]

That shook Marten out of his reverie.

"Jyn..." He gave her a smile. "Both of you, don't let it trouble you too much. Like I said, I'm not going to marry you to someone you'd be a poor match for. You're grown women, now. I'll value your council on this as much as I already do on everything else."

He gave a scowl. "Unless you fall for a real nitwit. I mean, I have limits."

[Jynessa Tremaine]

"You do not need to worry about me falling for any idiotic man," she stated. She took a bite and then let out a sigh. "I am more prudent than that."
