Teenage Woes (D5, EE)

[Mariessa Tremaine]

"Ah, it is a bit complicated," she chuckled as well, her free hand shyly playing with her loose hair. "But... I still feel I should give you something, in return for saving me. It seems only fair."

[Ser Harben Varner]

Harben stopped, turning so he could look fully at her. Gazing into her emerald eyes, like his own, but brighter, somehow more vibrant, he didn't say anything, he just caressed her cheek tenderly.

[Mariessa Tremaine]

Mari watched him, her eyes slowly widening in a quiet realization. The red color returned to her cheeks as she leaned in, raising herself slightly on her toes, and kissed his cheek.

"... I hope it will suffice, ser?" she murmured as she slowly pulled back.

[Ser Harben Varner]

A smile bloomed, "you have given me more than I could ever ask." A kiss for luck, he mused, more than I could dream. He resumed his place beside her, and walked with her the rest of the way back to the Tremaine pavilions.

For now, she was content to walk beside him back to the pavillions. At least she had given him some token in return now, even if it hadn't really solved the bigger questions on her mind. Though... there was no way she could mention this to her father.

A rather unhappy Kevith met them as they returned. He didn't ask where she had been and he only gave a solid look to the Varner-boy, crossing his thick arms over his large chest. "...Everything alright here?" he asked in an unamused tone, glancing between the two of them.

"Everything's fine, Kevith," Mari rolled her eyes. "Ser Harben was kind enough to escort me back."

Kevith grumbled, knowing Mari wasn't the kind to sneak off for a roll in the hay, and the boy hardly seemed the type to dare to do that to someone like her. "Hm, good... otherwise, I'd 'ave to take 'im out first tomorrow in the melee," he grinned a bit at that. He might still just take out Harben first, after all.

“Kevith,” Harben was cautiously polite, “good show in the wrestling. I don’t look forward to facing off against your poleaxe tomorrow.”

[Mariessa Tremaine]

Kevith chuckled, scratching his scruffy chin as he regarded the young man before him. "Ah well, ye'll have your chance to return the favor in the joust, eh? Figure that's more up yer alley than mine. Just hope ye'll be on the opposite side of the field, boy."

He glanced between Mari and Harben, before settling his eyes on Harben again with a grin. "Though I wouldn't rule out m'lord either tomorrow. We old folks got experience ye kids don't have yet."

Mari rolled her eyes again. "Kevith..." she sighed.

[Ser Harben Varner]

"I'll have your and Lord Marten's backs, if I can, that you can be assured," he promised. Turning to Mariessa, "be well, m'lady. May the Seven watch over you."

[Mariessa Tremaine]

"I'll keep that in mind," Kevith said with a small nod. He could respect that kind of sentiment. Not that he needed that, as he figured both he and Marten would probably be really dangerous if they ended up side-by-side, considering their years of practising together with polearms.

Mari on the other hand wasn't thinking about the melee at all right now. "You too, ser. May the Warrior grant you his favor tomorrow."

Harben bowed deeply to Mariessa, nodded firmly to Kevith, and turned to take his leave.
