Celebratory Drinks! (D9 LE, Marten Tents)

[Liliane Marten]

She took a long drink. "Hmmm, I hadn't thought of it like that. I suppose I could live with that. I mean the family just mostly wants me to bring in a capable knight, right?"

[Leovall Marten]

"Right... do you think you could persuade him to swear fealty to the Martens then? He said he wasn't in line to inherit and that he's therefore serving the Meadows. It might not matter that much to him." Leovall speculates as he ponders the situation.

[Liliane Marten]

"Hmmm, it might be possible. It might be a good idea to inquire into what sort of family he is from and if they have useful resources beyond Rychard's strong arm."

[Leovall Marten]

Leovall nods, gently nudging her back with his forehead. "About that..." He tells her what Rychard told him before.

"... So, since they're from here and as he didn't seem to me to have much say in his family's affairs..." Resources were probably out of the question.

[Liliane Marten]

"Ah, well, he'd be marrying up to some extent. We'd need to offer him something then," she sipped and toyed with her cup, "You had some ideas regarding snatching up some land, yes?"

[Leovall Marten]

"Yes, but we'll need to go over them with my father. Still, the winnings today should prove helpful." He sounded cheerful as he finished his cup, awkwardly moving to top it up. "Lean forward a second... thank you. Yes, we'd have to offer him something, but that shouldn't be too hard. Besides..." His gaze returns to her and he clears his throat. "He'd be more than marrying up." Lucky bastard.

[Liliane Marten]

She obliges his request leaning forward quite deeply and holding out her cup assuming this was intended to make it easier for him to refill it.

"Well, yes," she smiled, "So we try and secure some land to make better use of a more expanded family?"

[Leovall Marten]

Both cups do get refilled.

"That's the longer term plan, yes. I still think the South and West of us are suffering because of a lack of protection."

Taking a sip he curls an arm around her waist. "Remember when we nearly got lost in the western hills chasing that stray dog?"

[Liliane Marten]

She giggled as she leaned back into the arm. The intermittent drinking throughout the day meant that as she began her third cup of mead she was in a state where a little stability was not unwarranted.

"Yes! Chasing a squirrel. Silly thing," she sipped her drink, "You would think he'd never seen one before."

[Leovall Marten]

"Mmhmm. He was barking so much I was getting really worried we'd be found by some brigands or something, but I kept smiling and trying to pretend we were fine. By the Seven I was so dumb. It wasn't just that danger either; we very nearly did get lost. Even you were getting anxious when the sun started to descend." He recalls, enjoying his own drink along with her company.
