[Marten Tremaine]

Marten, meanwhile, gave Jyn a look, blissfully unaware of the subject of Mari and Simon's conversation. "And what about you, Jyn? Are you looking forward to enjoying the festivities?

[Jynessa Tremaine]

"Of course, father. I have never attended a tournament before. Perhaps I will earn the attention of a dashing knight." She gave a mischievous smirk before continuing. "No, I am most certainly Jyn. I wonder if we could ever pull that trick on you."

[Maester Simon]

Despite the seriousness of the issue, Mari giggled at the names.

"Sounds like quite a challenge," she grinned then it faded a little, as she looked at some concern in the direction of her father. "... I hope it won't be much use for it," she murmured quietly to Simon. "I sometimes worry father forgets his age."

"Mmhm. Though, I assumed that Lord Marten would not be joining the lists?" Simon had thought they were here to show their allegiance to the House Meadow. That and maybe see if Marten's daughter's caught anyone's eyes. But that was besides matters of propriety. "He's in excellent shape for his age though." he nodded seriously. "Many a lord his age is hardly fit for a long ride like this, let alone jousting."

[Mariessa Tremaine]

"He was quite the accomplished jouster and competitor in tourneys when he was younger," she spoke with some pride of her father. "So... I wouldn't be surprised if he's going to try himself in the lists again. He's in good shape for his age, as you say, so this might be one of the few chances he has to try it again."

"But..." she tightened her hold on the reins for a moment, "if you're there to look after him, Simon, I feel a bit more at ease."

[Maester Simon]

"I have no reason to doubt that." he offered her a sincere smile. "And should someone knock him off his horse, I'll patch him up mi'lady, worry not." As long as no-one knocks him down too hard. Simon bit his lip, swallowing the words. He had still ways to go before he'd be respected as authority, or so he thought. "What about you two, what are you looking towards to?"

[Mariessa Tremaine]

"Hmm... I suppose there are some of the contests that are acceptable for women; dressage, marksmanship too maybe... but I am looking forward to watching the melee." Not that it was a secret for anyone at Riverrest that Mari had some decent skill with a blade or bow herself, having learned from her brother and her father in happier times, even if she had never gone through the rigorous training a man would go through.

"But I am looking forward to all the other things that might happen too! Like hunts, or dances. Not everything is about the knights, after all."

[Maester Simon]

"Marksmanship? I guess." Simon frowned, already imaging how the smallfolk would laugh and joke how Lord Tremaine's daughters had taken the place of his son. Not that they could know the circumstances. He hoped that the jests wouldn't reach Marten's ears. "Melee, hee. Would mi'lady have a favorite perhaps?"

[Mariessa Tremaine]

"For a weapon, or a contender?" she smirked, but her mood was turning cheerful.

"I don't know... I've heard stories that sometimes a mysterious knight with no heraldry will show up at events like these. Like the Knight of the Laughing Tree at the tourney of Harrenhal!" Well... she had always liked that part of history lessons; knights in shining armour.

Marten did a quick double-take before laughing. "No, I don't think so. You haven't been able to fool me for years. Not since you were children, even." Actually, they hadn't been able to fool him then, but he always played along.

"Who knows, you might earn the attention of a dashing knight." He teased, grinning. "Something that sort can turn out alright."

[Maester Simon]

"For a weapon, or a contender?" she smirked, but her mood was turning cheerful.

"I mean contender, mi'lday." Simon chuckled, not really thinking weapon would make a difference for anyone, really. Did it matter if knight was smacked with a hammer or sword? "Mhmhm, alas such things happen far less often than you might believe. It's that extraordinary events get retold time after time, making them sound more commonplace than they are, at least in our minds."
