[Lord Bromley Meadows]

Bromely nodded, seeming deep in thought as he took another sip of wine. "You have two wonderful girls, Marten. There'll be no end to the queue of suitors now. I'm sure you noticed the looks they were getting at dinner."

[Marten Tremaine]

Marten chuckled. "Thank you. And yes, yes, I certainly did."

He sighed. "I suppose I'll have to overcome my natural instinct to scare them off with my scowl." He sighed. "Perhaps... I should meet some of them. Take their measure."

[Lord Bromley Meadows]

"I should introduce you to Septa Gwyn. She has been indispensable with Lysa. She's taken the young Rayley under her wing as well." He sighed again, "it's so hard watching them grow up. I knew what to do when she was eight and making daisy chains in the gardens. She's like a stranger to me some days, and now she's leaving. I wonder if I'll know her at all when I see her next."

[Marten Tremaine]

Marten hesitated a moment, then nodded. "Yes, very good. I've done the best I can with them, but it hasn't always been easy. Some things, I think a woman would be better to show them, and with their mother gone..." Marten shrugged. Of course, he'd had to take over at least a year before she died.

Marten chuckled dryly. "I know the feeling. Some days I feel as though Mari and I are closer than ever. Then the next day... and Jyn, of course..." He sighed. "Still, Lysa seems like she's become a fine young woman. That's surely thanks to you." He raised his goblet.

Bromley echoed the gesture, "to daughters, and the fine women they've become."

[Marten Tremaine]

Marten smiled. "To daughters." He said, drinking modestly.

"Well." He said. "Rayley also seems like a fine young woman. Your son must be pleased. Perhaps my daughters should meet her, too. They do very well at making friends."

[Lord Bromley Meadows]

The lord chuckled softly, "my boy is pleased, he's been preening and strutting like a peacock since they met. It's all gone quite to his head, I'm afraid, but she's a good type, I think she'll help keep him grounded."

He took a sip of wine, and raised an eyebrow, "did you know Rayley's already invited your girls to come sit in my box to watch some display or another?" Bromley shook his head in amazement.

Marten chuckled. "Well, I'm sure they'll settle on a good dynamic soon enough."

"Did they?" Marten raised both eyebrows to match Bromley's one. "It sounds like Rayley really is doing well here, then. Septa Gwyn's influence, or is that just who she is?"

"The girl's charming, there's no mistaking that. Reminds me of my wife when we first met," Bromley shook his head slowly, "delicate thing she was." He heaved a sigh, "I hope Elwood fares better than I."

[Marten Tremaine]

Marten grunted sympathetic acknowledgement to that. "That's the way of it, eh? We hope that our children do well. Or at least that they don't have to deal with all the trouble we had to." He ran one hand over his face, partially fatigue, partially at the slightly dark thoughts that entered his mind.
